Dr Katie Trickey
MA (Hons) (Cambridge), BSc (Hons) Psychology, Doctor Clinical Psychology (UK)
I am a Clinical Psychologist with 18 years’ experience helping adults with a wide range of emotional difficulties. After working for 12 years in psychology services in London, I emigrated to Brisbane in 2014, where I have worked in PTSD research, inpatient services and private practice.
I am a member of professional bodies in both the UK and Australia, with accreditation in both countries. I am particularly interested in the assessment and treatment of PTSD, and have experience working with survivors of rape and sexual assault, those suffering domestic violence, refugees and victims of torture, armed forces personnel and first responders. I also have a special interest in supporting people who are living with changed health/life circumstances, and mid-life or later life changes.
I am committed to the use of evidence-based therapies (i.e. psychological interventions that have been demonstrated in research trials to be effective). I am currently training for accreditation as a schema therapist, and use this along with cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT) and EMDR.
I work collaboratively with my clients, learning from their wealth of knowledge about themselves, and combining that with my experience to support their healing and positive change. I am very optimistic about people’s ability to improve their emotional wellbeing, but I never forget that therapy is hard, and that people who come to therapy are courageous.
