Dr Bronwyn Massavelli
BPsychSc (Hons1), MPsychClin, PhD (Psychology). MAPS. FCCLP.
I am a Clinical Psychologist with over twelve years of clinical experience in treating a range of mental health presentations in both the private practice and public sectors. I have also worked in settings that include research and residential aged care.
I have specific interests in veteran mental health and the impact of service, and in the treatment of mental health needs and issues that can impact older adults and later life including adjustment. I am also passionate about the Human-Animal Bond regarding the psychological benefits of pets and companion animals and the impact of pet-related grief and loss.
I completed all my training at the University of Queensland, which includes a Bachelor of Psychological Science (with First Class Honours), a Master of Clinical Psychology and a PhD (Psychology). My approach to treatment incorporates utilising evidenced based treatment approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy tailored to the needs and goals of clients, and I enjoy working collaboratively with clients to empower and support them to build the skills they need to cope with life’s adversities and make healthier life choices.
I value the importance of establishing and nurturing a strong therapeutic alliance through providing clients with a space that is warm, empathic, compassionate, and safe, which are key contributing aspects towards positive therapeutic change and growth. I really enjoy working from a schema therapy approach and am working towards becoming an accredited schema therapist in the future.
